Why Rose follows the Doctor

Rose: “But it’s not! It’s now! That fight is happening right now, and he’s fighting for us! For the whole planet, and I’m just sitting here eating chips! … But what do I do every day, mum? What do I do? Get up – catch the bus – go to work – come back home – eat chips and go to bed? Is that it? … But I can’t! … it was a better life… The Doctor showed me a better way of living your life. You know, he showed you too. That you don’t just give up. You don’t just let things happen. You make a stand. You say no. You have the guts to do what’s right when everyone else just runs away.”Image

I’m sure that I barely need to draw any parallels here, do I? While we sit here eating chips Jesus the Creator is sustaining the Universe. He keeps everything turning, suspended in space in just the right place so we don’t get fried by the sun (like chips?) . . . And for those of us who have found new life in Him, everything is different! Do you remember that moment the “eyes of your heart” were opened? Now everything looks different, our perspective is shifted and we see this world and our life with new eyes, with new joy and we see the unique opportunities we have to do good and fight for Him on this planet. He is fighting for us, He has fought for us, against the unseens powers, and He won!
Jesus has given us Life in abundance, a better life, eternal life. He has given us His Spirit, not of timidity but of love, power and sound mind so that we can stand and fight for what is right when everyone else walks away.

About sevennotesofgrace

The author musing here about music, grace and God goes by the name of Ros. I have a husband (married 24 yrs) and three daughters. I've been many things over the years, particularly a mother, high school teacher, church music director and women's ministry co-ordinator. Now I'm back to teaching high school English full-time. All these experiences have come to me from God's gracious hand, and each day I try to remember that! I live in a home among many gum trees in Brisbane Australia. Our extended family includes a white Maremma dog named Mia, two kittens, Simon and Catniss, and one chickens. Why “seven notes of grace”? The grace refers to God’s grace, which He offers to unworthy people like myself. We can freely receive His forgiveness and love. Music is another gracious gift to us: our ability to create, play, sing, communicate with and enjoy it. So the seven refers to the seven notes of the musical scale (yes there are seven, count them A to G) and the notes refers to writing (text and music) and musical notes. I was very relieved when this original blog title finally came to me, which encapsulates so many different aspects of who I am, a musical sinner saved by grace! http://sevennotesofgrace.com/

  1. C.S.Lewis talks about people ‘writing more than they know’ and I think this is a great example of that; it’s such a rich parable for Christians; for me. Into a world where “the heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament shows his handiwork” day and night, he still chose to send his only Son to prove his love for us and Jesus never intended his disciples to be content with fish (and chips) on the beach.
    John 20:21.
