Seeking a partner in crime . . . and adventure!

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7-8) . . . even the Tardis door!

Donna’s second meeting with the Doctor bears testimony to her persistence. In this her second adventure with Tennant’s Doctor, we are introduced to the Adipose, the cute yet repulsive little creatures made from “living” human fat, who are being fostered by an intergalactic Super Nanny! Donna has been investigating all things out of the ordinary for months now, things which might attract the Doctor’s attention and lead her to cross his path. Do you remember when Donna first met number Ten? It was her wedding day and she was unintentionally sucked up into the Tardis while walking down the aisle! Donna chose NOT to go with Doctor then, thinking him just too dangerous after seeing her duplicitous fiance Lance fed to alien spiders and the draining of the Thames. But ever since that day she has been desperately searching for that amazing Doctor. Simply staying safe is no longer her priority. “He’s real, I’ve seen him . . . I’ve met him, just once”, she tells Grandpa – up the hill. Without the Doctor her life is now just so ordinary! And even though it was only one time, Donna can’t see her life and the world in which she lives the same way any more. She craves more of the adventure she knows is possible with the Doctor. “I believe it all now, you’ve opened my eyes”. She wants to experience more of that view that is outside of time, which transcends the future, the past, and things which seem impossible.

Sometimes one meeting is all it takes. People hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ, they get a glimpse of the glorious reality of God and what our existence is really all about, and they jump at the chance to start the adventure with their Maker! Other times it takes much more convincing and many more long hard looks before people see the real life that is to be found in Christ. This adventure is so much bigger than us.

In the words of songwriter Keith Getty: “King of Heaven, we will answer the call, we will follow bringing hope to the world, filled with passion, filled with power to proclaim salvation in Jesus’ name“. This is the adventure we are called to – how are you travelling?

About sevennotesofgrace

The author musing here about music, grace and God goes by the name of Ros. I have a husband (married 24 yrs) and three daughters. I've been many things over the years, particularly a mother, high school teacher, church music director and women's ministry co-ordinator. Now I'm back to teaching high school English full-time. All these experiences have come to me from God's gracious hand, and each day I try to remember that! I live in a home among many gum trees in Brisbane Australia. Our extended family includes a white Maremma dog named Mia, two kittens, Simon and Catniss, and one chickens. Why “seven notes of grace”? The grace refers to God’s grace, which He offers to unworthy people like myself. We can freely receive His forgiveness and love. Music is another gracious gift to us: our ability to create, play, sing, communicate with and enjoy it. So the seven refers to the seven notes of the musical scale (yes there are seven, count them A to G) and the notes refers to writing (text and music) and musical notes. I was very relieved when this original blog title finally came to me, which encapsulates so many different aspects of who I am, a musical sinner saved by grace! http://sevennotesofgrace.com/

  1. “Staying safe is no longer her priority…’ Just as well…
The Doctor, Aslan, the risen, living LORD, may all seem too dangerous at first meeting but when they choose to be your friend; then it’s the monsters’ turn to be afraid.
    I still forget this sometimes.
